Ok, so you have logged onto PKR to participate in one of their great Freeroll Tournaments. You ask yourself, “what next?” - well, we can answer this question for you. The first thing that you need to know is that no matter how few players have signed up, this is not necessarily easy money. You have to know what you’re doing, even against only a few opponents, because not only is it very likely that they’re assuming that it’s easy money, but they have come to win, just as you have. You have to take into consideration the payout percentage (which can be found on PKR Poker ) and figure that there is a really good chance that you won’t be in that percentage unless you know what you are doing. One thing to keep in mind early in the game is that you should really consider folding any hand that isn’t a “sure thing”. Most people are looking to double up fast and early at this point in a freeroll, so if you don’t have a strong hand, you are better off folding it. In other words, keep a hand that consists of an Ace/King, an Ace/Queen, King/Queen or an Ace and any other suited card. You should also ALWAYS hold any pocket pair. And even though the blinds are low at this point, make sure you play cautiously, you don’t want to make the mistake of losing all of your chips in the early rounds because of overzealous betting. Another thing to be wary of are players who make All In bets every other hand. Unless you have two pair or better or a good chance at a flush, you shouldn’t call these bets. Many players get themselves out of the game quickly by unwisely betting All In. Don’t be a statistic!
Next, whenever you do hit a good hand, make sure that you don’t over anticipate. You might have an Ace/King and hit a flop of King/Queen/Jack, but that does NOT mean you automatically win. There are many chances for one of your opponents to hit a straight, so make sure you play this hand wisely. Also, no matter how you play other poker games, remember that a pair of Aces is NOT an unbeatable hand. Make sure you play them wisely, watching the plays of other players to decide if it is worth playing the pair.
Now, to give you a bit of a heads up, here is a copy of PKR’s current Freeroll Schedule.
